It’s the end of 2025! How has your year been? It’s time to turn a corner, and that’s a good thing. Today we’re talking 2026 trends!

What is a trend, according to Dean? Something like the color of the year, according to Pantone. Dean has no problem with that, but what he doesn’t like is when home decor is treated like disposable fashion that you change out every year or two.

In other news, home renovation shows like those you see on HDTV are seeing a sharp decline in viewership, so that’s why networks are bringing back the classic home shows we know and love.

Home with Dean Sharp Hour 1 (09/26) - Today on Dean’s all-calls Saturday, our first caller’s lawn is soaked, and wants to know how to take out all the "sogginess".

Next up, a caller had their home roof done, and the contractor is asking for full payment before the final inspection is completed and approved - is it normal procedure, or will the contractor walk away?

Plus, a caller's 1975 house used to have a concrete patio. then had a wood plank deck, then once it aged out, had some interlocking pavers done as the patio, and doesn't want to step down.

Dean talks about the issue about aging in place in your own home. An AARP survey says 75% of people want to stay in their own homes as they age.  Dean discusses the things you can do to make your home ‘age friendly’ from walk in bathtubs to grab bars because they need to function decades longer than initially intended and these days you will likely recoup almost 100% of the cost of preparing your home for aging in place. As an aside, Dean also talks about the importance of solar power and backup systems in the event of power outages.

Dean also takes listener calls about a occasional smell coming from a central air conditioning system, why a sliding glass door in a family room is leaking when it rains damaging the wood floor, what precautions someone should take when turning on the air conditioning, heating unit for the first time in several years, how to install ‘grab bars’ in an exiting tile shower, whether a walk in tub is a good idea to install or will it have to be reversed when we plan to sell and how to get European style doors and windows serviced when everyone is encouraging me to replace them completely.
