Josh Wharehinga: Gisborne Deputy Mayor says district may request govt assistance, once extent of Hale damage is known

View descriptionShare

The Gisborne District may need Government help to recover from ex-tropical cyclone Hale.

A state of emergency remains in effect with many roads still blocked by flooding, including State Highway 25 between Tolaga Bay and Ruatoria, and State Highway 2 between Wairoa and Napier.

Cabinet Minister Kiri Allan has done an initial flyover with officials to survey the damage

Gisborne Deputy Mayor Josh Wharehinga told Tim Dower the district may formally request government assistance, once the full extent of the situation is known.

Coromandel also remains in clean-up mode, with State Highway 25 closed between Te Puru and Tapu due to a slip.
