September 14 is the annual celebration of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross commemorates the discovery of the True Cross by St. Helena, the dedication of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and the cross as the triumphant symbol of salvation, transforming an instrument of torture into a sign of victory. The Feast honors the Cross upon which Jesus was crucified to redeem the world from sin, serving as a reminder of God's love and the victory of life over death. The feast originated in the 4th century with St. Helena's discovery of the True Cross in Jerusalem around 326 AD and the subsequent dedication of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in 335 AD. While Good Friday focuses specifically on the suffering of Christ's passion, the Feast of the Exaltation focuses on the triumph of the cross itself, and is commemorated by Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and Protestant Lutherans & Anglicans.
