Edited and annotated by the American Bible student Cyrus I. Scofield (1843-1921), The Scofield Reference Bible is a widely circulated study Bible. It popularized dispensationalism at the beginning of the 20th century. The Scofield Bible significantly influenced and still guides the Christian Zionist movement—a theological and political movement, primarily within Protestant Evangelicalism, that supports the modern state of Israel and the return of the Jewish people to the Holy Land as a fulfillment of biblical prophecy. Adherents believe this restoration is a prerequisite for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, making their support for Israel a cornerstone of their faith.
