Mark Porter seems to always have his pulse on the college football recruiting scene around Ohio

The longtime director of ScoutingOhio.com believes the COVID-19 pandemic altered the recruiting landscape this spring and has sped up the process for high school football players and college coaches evaluating those prospects.

Porter discussed Ohio high school football, college recruiting and the various scenarios for this fall with the WCPO High School Insider podcast.

Porter, who lives in Youngstown area, has a unique perspective of having played high school and college football while connecting with college programs frequently because of his scouting service.

As a parent and avid high school football follower, he's keenly aware what families experience during the college recruiting process.

"I honestly think this is a horribly frustrating process in a good year," Porter said. "I think this year is absolutely like rip your hair out of your head if you are a parent or player. My heart goes out to them because you never got your chance. This is like recruiting back in the 70s or 80s when I played where after the season they (college coaches) came around and watched your tape and if the tape wasn't good enough - see you later."
