On 8 June 2008, the crossing of Kanda Myojin-dori and Chuo-dori in Akihabara, Tokyo, was bustling with the usual weekend throng of shoppers and tourists. However, chaos would soon break out as a van drove straight into the crowd, before the driver stepped out with a knife; in what would turn out to be one of the most heinous crimes in Japanese history.
