Russell Brand has appeared in court in London for the start of his trial on rape and sexual assault charges.

The 51-year-old is accused of groping women and forcing them into sexual acts over 10 years -from 1999 to 2009.

UK correspondent Enda Brady says Brand has denied all charges so far.

New Zealand's aluminium extrusion industry has urged the Government to take action in order to reduce the impact of offshore competition.  

Industry leaders have asked the Government to introduce tougher safeguard protection measures - a request the Government has since rejected.     

McKechnie Aluminium Solutions managing director Dave Slomp says it's a 'dark day' for the industry. 

"I guess we're disappointed that we haven't acted with pragmatism and courage, so it's a tough day for the industry."
