Oliver Peterson: Australian correspondent on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese meeting with UK counterpart for backpackers crackdown
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to meet with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham later this week, where it's expected the pair will discuss changing the rules for British backpackers.
The current free trade deal allows UK citizens to stay in Australia for three years while being exempt from regional work requirements - and it's likely these terms will be changed amid concerns about migration.
Australian correspondent Oliver Peterson says the British backpackers are more likely to work in Bondi and other big cities, and there's a push to get them out to the regions to fill labour gaps.
