The Police Minister says he's deeply concerned about the ages of robbers plundering Auckland jewellery stores.

In the past two weeks, at least five aggravated robberies have spanned Auckland - at Westgate, Newmarket, Onehunga and Manurewa.

Minister Mark Mitchell says in the most recent incident, the robbers were aged between nine and fourteen.

He says plans for youth military academies are a big part of their response.

"That's going to be targeted at those worst recidivist violent youth offenders, because at the end of the day,  we want to invest in these young people and try to get them back on the right track."

Dunedin’s landmark Ed Sheeran mural was defaced with the words 'Free Palestine' and splashes of red paint as the UK singer faces growing backlash.

Rapper Macklemore was removed from Sheeran's US  tour for making pro-Palestinian remarks on stage, and it's inspired the other openers to quit the tour - as well as plenty of criticism directed at the singer.

The Country's Jamie Mackay weighed in on the situation.

Supermarket owners all over the country have raised concerns over National's election promise to split up Foodstuffs.

The party wants to create a third player by separating Pak'nSave from New World and Four Square, subject to Commerce Commission agreement.

New World owner-operator Eric Rush says he's been working in this business for 16 years and putting 'long, hard' hours in - and he's raised doubts over this campaign promise.

"That just goes to show that they have no understanding of actually how it works. We'll find a way if we have to, but it's not going to be the same."
