A step towards giving volunteer firefighters the same ACC protection as fulltimers.
Labour MP Kieran McAnulty's Accident Compensation Amendment Bill has been drawn from Parliament's biscuit tin today.
The legislation would extend cover for work-related injuries and illnesses to volunteers.
United Fire Brigades Association CEO Bill Butzbach says it's important for it to pass.
"If we can't keep supporting our volunteers that we rely so much upon - if they stop volunteering, we're going to be in a bunch of trouble. I think they need to feel well-supported in the very important role they carry out."
