"Help me out people!
So my neighbor is apparently scared of dogs, so the cops have told us…
We have lived next to them for 3 years. They haven’t ever spoken to us and we are friends with all of our other neighbors. Yesterday was the 3rd time they have called the cops on my husband and I because our dog got out of our house without a leash. Our dog is a 20 pound chihuahua. When she has called the cops it is because he runs near their property and barks at her and then he runs back inside our house.
The first time she called we got a written warning, the second time I got a ticket for animal ordinance and yesterday my husband got a ticket or animal ordinance (leash law). Keep in mind, I am 31 and this was my first ticket of any kind ever. I am a rule follower! The ticket is $250 and 10 hours of community service.
I’m caught in a hard place because she is “pulling strings” with her connections. She is the fire marshal.
Last year at our HOA meeting this same neighbor brought up trying to take a lean out on someone’s property because she didn’t like the aggressive dog breed she had. After that I stood up at the meeting and politely said, why can’t we go and have an adult conversation if we have concerns with our neighbors and try to resolve it before involving law enforcement. Everyone agreed that was appropriate.
So what do I do? My dog has gotten out 3 times in 3 years and she pulls her ring camera footage and sends it to the police. My dog isn’t hurting her and sometimes dogs slip out of the house. I feel like she should give us some grace but clearly she won’t. What do I do?"
