  • Differentiation is critical - inflammatory, neoplastic, allergic, autoimmune, and drug-induced causes should all be considered

  • Early recognition, appropriate biopsy, and referral can prevent serious complications

  • Patch testing is useful in chronic cases, and laser resurfacing is an option for recurrent lesions
