Early diagnosis is vital, and we must maintain a high index of suspicion and investigate patients with unintended weight loss, non-specific GI symptoms with a history of smoking, obesity, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, alcohol ingestion with a CT scan
We need to ensure we enlist appropriate help and support for the patient at the time of discharge
We cannot assume the patient had been initiated on pancreatic enzyme replacement or that they are taking enough of it
Despite the poor prognosis, there may be a silver lining to this dark cloud
