The attempted murder trial is underway for the Maui doctor accused of trying to push his wife off a cliff at Oahu's Pali Lookout trail nearly one year ago. And there are new warnings at Waimea Bay, where state crews are working to shore up a landslide as drivers face delays on the highway.

The state is closing one lane of Kamehameha Highway near Waimea Bay to stabilize the hillside after heavy rains stripped vegetation. Hawaiian Electric crews are still working to restore power following the recent storm. A city bus driver who crashed into a tree in Kalihi has died.

After much speculation, Kauai County Mayor Derek Kawakami just announced he will be running for lieutenant governor. A city bus crashed into a tree around 7 this morning, critically injuring a man who had to be extricated from the bus. We're also following developing news of a deadly stabbing in Waikiki.

The Kona Low really made its presence felt across the state over the weekend, bringing consistent heavy downpours, washed roads, and power outages. A Maui couple is starting all over after watching their home crumble into a raging river. And the U.S. is looking for help in defeating an Iranian blockade of a critical shipping channel for oil tankers.  

Another first alert weather day is in in effect, as a strong Kona Low is making its presence felt across the state. On Maui, a judge has ruled in the case of a Hawaii musician's alleged use of illegal fireworks on New Year's Eve. And the U.S. government now claims that toxic exposure for military members during the 2021 Red Hill fuel leak disaster was connected to their military service, but service members who are suing the government say that's not true.

More U.S. bombers are arriving in the Middle East, according to the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The mother of a man accused of slashing a Honolulu police officer's throat says he has been struggling with mental health. The state recently saw its first conviction for habitually driving without a license under newly enhanced penalties.

The Honolulu Police Department is holding a press conference about an officer involved shooting that happened last night at Halawa Housing. Because of the high winds and ongoing drought conditions, Hawaiian Electric is warning customers that it could shut off power to reduce wildfire risks. And law enforcement sources say they hope Nancy Guthrie's pacemaker can help them find the missing 84-year-old woman. 

Hawaii's Attorney General gave an update today on the state's investigation into the $35,000 bribery case involving an influential state legislator. We have been following developing news out of central Oahu, where HPD is investigating an apparent homicide in Wahiawa that happened overnight. And authorities have released the first physical description of a male suspect seen on the doorbell camera at Guthrie's home in Tucson, Arizona, the night she went missing.

New details in the search for missing Today Show host's mother Nancy Guthrie as the FBI were seen searching the Catalina Foothills in Arizona today. A 93-year-old pedestrian died after a driver hit her as she was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk with the walk signal illuminated. And the arrest of a burglary suspect in Kailua Kona also leads to charges in an assault that allegedly happened inside a woman's home. 

We have wind advisory in effect for Maui County and Hawaii Island until 6 tonight, with trade wind gusts at up to 55 miles-per-hour. Days after strong winds took a toll on their homes, some residents are scrambling to keep a roof over their heads.
