Lingering power outages from Hurricane Lowell have triggered a travel nightmare for passengers at Lihue Airport. Across Kauai's battered North Shore, weary residents are urging visitors to show respect as recovery and cleanup efforts get underway. Meanwhile on the Big Island, remnants of Lowell brought renewed flooding to Ka‘u, creating a frightening situation for a community still trying to recover from Lala.

Power has been restored to roughly 56% of Kauai Island Utility Cooperative members across towns from Kapaa to Waimea, but widespread challenges persist islandwide. In Kealia, more than 300 National Guard members are on the ground assisting residents who remain without water service. Meanwhile, an overnight fire at the Lihue Civic Center has forced all public offices and services at the complex to shut down until further notice.
