Amid blackouts on Kauai, a large fire breaks out in Lihue in a building that was running on a generator. Casey Lund is live this morning with one organization that helps families when disasters hit. Sunrise 5 a.m. (Sept. 10, 2026)

Governor Josh Green is visiting Kauai to see the widespread devastation firsthand as state and county crews begin assessing the damage. With the majority of the island's power still knocked out, Hawaiian Electric has pledged its support, sending crews and heavy equipment from Oahu to accelerate repairs. Plus, hundreds of National Guard members have deployed to assist Kauai neighborhoods currently left without drinking water.

In Hanapepe and across west Kauai, residents are entering their second day of recovery facing widespread blackouts and limited gasoline. As blocked roads finally reopen, we get our first look at the wreckage on the Garden Isle's battered north shore.
