Kauai and Niihau felt the brunt of the Category 2 storm as whipped winds brought down trees and powerlines, leaving nearly all of the Garden Isle in the dark. Along the coastline, raging storm surges slammed into communities and resorts, leaving major roadways covered in debris or completely washed out. Kauai residents now face the overwhelming task of cleaning up, with school canceled for the rest of the week as recovery efforts get underway.
