STORY 1:5 arrested in connection to stolen vehicle, gun and drugs in Duluth parking lot

Five suspects were arrested by Gwinnett County police in connection with a case involving a stolen vehicle, a stolen firearm, and narcotics. Officers, aided by the Aviation Unit, found a stolen vehicle in a Duluth parking lot on April 4. The suspects, believed to be from Chicago, were detained. A search of the vehicle yielded a stolen firearm and narcotics. Aniyah Falon Barber, Laroy Allen-Burse, Marquise T Ellison, Lamont William Hall Jr., and Dominique Bell face charges including possession of a controlled substance and theft by receiving stolen property. Hall had outstanding warrants from another jurisdiction. The case information was shared with other agencies, suggesting additional charges might be forthcoming.

STORY 2:Gwinnett Police Searching For Jewelry Thief

Gwinnett County Police have issued a felony theft warrant for the arrest of Audrina Victoria Smith, a 29-year-old Maryland woman accused of stealing $3,200 worth of jewelry from a Lawrenceville store. According to police, Smith entered the Jewelry Box on Sugarloaf Parkway, tried on a Rolex necklace, then allegedly concealed it under her wallet and left without purchasing anything. Surveillance footage captured her leaving in a red Mazda with a temporary Missouri license plate. Police urge anyone with information on Smith's whereabouts to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously. Crime Stoppers tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward leading to an arrest and indictment.

STORY 3:Gwinnett Police Looking For Woman Accused Of Defrauding Bank Of $350K

The Gwinnett County Police Department's Electronic and Financial Crimes Unit is asking for assistance in identifying a woman suspected of defrauding a local bank of over $300,000. The incident occurred on Jan. 19 when the woman opened an account at a bank in Grayson using a stolen identity from Florida. She deposited a check worth $350,103.17 and withdrew the cash on Feb. 1. The victim reported the identity theft in Florida, leading the case to be transferred to Gwinnett Police. Surveillance images of the suspect are available, and anyone with information is urged to contact Gwinnett County Police detectives or Crime Stoppers anonymously. Crime Stoppers tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward upon arrest and indictment.

The Jackson EMC Foundation awarded $107,795 in grants during its recent meeting, with $57,500 allocated to organizations serving Gwinnett County. Recipients include Hi-Hope Service Center for nursing and nutrition services, Heirborn Servants for transportation assistance for survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence, Vision to Learn for free vision services for K-12 students, NOA’s Ark for trauma counseling, and the Georgia Transplant Foundation for organ transplant support. These grants are funded by cooperative members through the Operation Round Up program, totaling over $20.4 million since 2005. Thirteen-year-old Zharria Musette from Lawrenceville will embark on a six-week intensive dance training in New York City this summer, securing spots at the prestigious Joffrey Ballet School and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre School of Dance after successful auditions. Despite initial nerves, Zharria, with only three years of consistent training, impressed judges and earned recognition at recent dance competitions. Specializing in ballet, modern, and jazz, she aspires to dance professionally, with dreams of studying at Juilliard or joining the Rockettes. Her mother, Tai’Sheree, applauds Zharria’s dedication and talent, foreseeing a bright future in dance for her daughter.

Jimmy Cenescar, a dedicated law enforcement officer and student at Georgia Gwinnett College, tragically lost his life in a pursuit while on duty. He had anticipated his graduation as a significant milestone, overshadowing even his completion of trooper school. However, Jimmy's dreams were cut short by his untimely death. In a poignant ceremony, his brother Joel accepted Jimmy's diploma on his behalf, amid tears of both pride and sorrow. STORY 1:Alleged meth trafficker who led deputies on chase denied bond

Jonathan Medina, an alleged methamphetamine trafficker, was denied bond by the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office following his arrest for evading a traffic stop in Suwanee, which resulted in multiple vehicle collisions. After attempting to flee on foot, Medina was apprehended by K-9 deputies. He sustained injuries during the escape attempt and was hospitalized. Authorities found 430 grams of methamphetamine in his vehicle, leading to charges of methamphetamine trafficking, fleeing law enforcement, obstruction of officers, reckless driving, among other offenses. Medina remains in custody.

STORY 2:Gwinnett County working with state officials on road widenings

Gwinnett County is partnering with the Georgia Department of Transportation to progress road widening projects, focusing on Scenic Highway and Sugarloaf Parkway. The collaboration includes a $85,000 study for Scenic Highway, funded by the 2017 SPLOST fund, and a GDOT-overseen preliminary engineering on Sugarloaf Parkway, with the county contributing $30,000 towards the effort. These initiatives aim to address congestion and improve safety, featuring a comprehensive approach that includes feasibility studies, traffic assessments, and conceptual corridor improvements.

STORY 3: Annandale Village announces Melissa DaSilva as its Chief Programs Officer

Melissa DaSilva, a distinguished nurse and leader with a comprehensive background in behavioral health, disabilities, and nonprofit management, recently assumed the role of Chief Programs Officer at Annandale Village in April. Annandale Village stands out as a unique nonprofit in the southeast, offering a wide spectrum of care services for adults with diverse disabilities, from independent living to skilled nursing, with a focus on promoting independence and hope for the community. DaSilva is excited to bring her expertise to the organization, where she will oversee all programs at Annandale's campus, including residential programs, day programs, and health services, furthering the mission of the nonprofit.
