Tracy from Pay It Forward House Was our Guest DJ today! We talked all about their big Friend-raiser coming up on Sunday called Meet Me At The Splash Park! It's going to be a fun day with free food, music, games, and the splash pad of course! Plus they have a silent auction and raffles as well. 

Sara and Ann from Barb City Manor were our Guest DJs today! We talked about their big Annual Friends of Barb City Manor ReSale Shop Summer Sale! They will be overflowing with great deals! John from DeKalb County United Soccer Club was our Guest DJ today. We talked all about their upcoming few weeks ahead. The women's team is competing to win a state trophy, the men's finale is coming up on the 27th and will be a huge game to determine their future, and the USASA Amateur Cup National competition coming to DeKalb. 

Emma from CASA DeKalb County was our Guest DJ. Deanna and Heaven from the DeKalb County Mental Health Board were our Guest DJs today. We talked all about what they do as a Government funder of services and programs for behavioral health and highlighted three brand new programs they are funding this year.

Bill from the Kishwaukee DeKalb Kiwanis Club was our Guest DJ today. We talked all about Biking with Beanzie which is happening this Sunday, 7/14. We talked routes, costs, and all sorts of great safety information.

Anna from the DeKalb Chamber was our Guest DJ today. We talked all about what the Chamber does and some fun events. We highlighted Family Fun Fest, Campus Meets Community, and their Golf Outing. 

Cole and Laura from the Rotaract Club of Sycamore were our Guest DJs today. We talked all about July being the start of the “Rotaract Year” so it’s a great time to try it out/join. We discussed their Adopt a Classroom program, which is expanding into DeKalb this year. We also debuted the date for Trick or Trivia this year and talked about some other activities planned. 

Steven, Greg, and Morgan from Stage Coach Players were our Guest DJs today. We talked all about their upcoming performance of Cabaret! It kicks off next Thursday, 7/11 and runs through the 21st. It's going to be an amazing show. 

Beth from Safe Passage was our Guest DJ today. We talked about their Golf outing on September 13th. We also talked about their Sexual Harassment Prevention Training they offer.

Sonia from the Christ Community Church Outreach Center was our Guest DJ today. We talked all about some programs they have coming up including their Space Themed Summer Camp and Club 316, which are both free. They are also part of Familia Fest as well. 

Emma from CASA DeKalb County was our Guest DJ today! We talked about a lot of really great things including:  June is National Reunification Month This month highlights the importance of family preservation and the efforts taken to ensure children remain or are reunited with their families whenever safely possible CASA advocates for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect and ensuring they have a voice in court. We work to support children and families and advocate for reunification when safe and possible, providing guidance, resources and advocacy CASA’s Role CASA serves as the voice in court for 100% of children who have experienced abuse/neglect and are involved in the court system through no fault of their own. Served over 200 children annually Community members volunteer as CASA Advocates to gather information about the lives of the children we serve by attending meetings, talking to everyone involved in the child’s life (teachers, parents, foster parents, counselors, doctors). They present this information to the judge so the judge can make informed decisions about the child’s case. What the public can do to help If you see somethings, say something! Report any suspected child abuse to the hotline (1-800-25-ABUSE, 1-800-252-2873) Volunteer to be a CASA Advocate Typically about 10 hours/month, must be at least 24 years old, willing to commit for 2 years and travel to surrounding counties for child visits.  Stay tuned for training details coming soon Reunification example: Substance exposed child who came in to court at birth. Mom stopped using once she found out she was pregnant. The parents were engaged from the start and completed all their services. CASA advocated for a developmental screening for the child, who is doing well so far. Samantha and Steven from the DeKalb Public Library were our Guest DJs today. We talked about a ton of stuff going on including After Hours Concerts, Summer Reading, Book Clubs, Teen Programming and events, and Funky Fruits and Edgy Veggies. It was a great conversation packed with information. 

Zach from the Kishwaukee Family YMCA was our Guest DJ today! We talked about a lot of great things happening at the YMCA including:  Their Summer & Sport Camps. Their pool availability for swim lessons or open swim for families. June/July membership specials.

Tim and Sara from the Kishwaukee DeKalb Kiwanis Club were our Guest DJs today. We talked about what Kiwanis does and focused mainly on their Biking With Beanzie fundraiser coming up. This is a bike ride that has four different routes you can choose from throughout DeKalb County and all funds raised go right back into the community. 

Deana from the Dekalb County Community Mental Health Board and Nancy from Youth Outlook Services were our Guest DJs today. We talked all about what services are available through Youth Outreach Services, we highlighted some of the struggles youth may face, and we talked about belonging and the DEI efforts being made in DeKalb County. It was a fantastic conversation.

Jill from the Sycamore Public Library was our Guest DJ today. We talked all about their Summer Reading Challenge. We also talked about some new clubs like the Classic Book Club and the Sunday Cookbook Book Club, and so much more. 

Michael Embrey was our Guest DJ today. The DeKalb Veterans Memorial and the DeKalb Elks Lodge 765 will be hosting a special Flag Day ceremony on Friday, June 14th, 2024. This special event will start at 6:00 PM. We talked all about the details on this special event.

Bob and Kurt from Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County were our Guest DJs today. We talked about a lot of great stuff including:  Their Faith Relations Committee, and the importance of faith in the Habitat Mission. Corporate Support for HFHDC through leaders like DeKalb Mechanical and how we need more corporate support to help carryout their Habitat Mission An update on our Home Preservation Program

Tony and Zach from NIU Athletics were our Guest DJs today. We talked all about the Summer Circuit that just wrapped up, we talked about the in game experience and what to expect this upcoming season, and how you can get tickets. There are several options on sale now and more coming. 

Anna from Neighbor's House was our Guest DJ today. We talked about what's going on with them including: Recent grants they received Their upcoming Summer Reading Vacations  They are seeking 5K Sponsorships  It was a great conversation highlighting their work and what they have coming up.

Matt Duffy from the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce was our Guest DJ today. We talked all about the Leadership Academy and the Graduation ceremony coming up Next Wednesday June 12th! We also talked Farmer's Market, Golf Outing, Athena, and more! 

Ashley and Tommy from Make A Difference DeKalb County and The Suter Company were our Guest DJs today. We talked about a fundraiser coming up on Monday at Tom and Jerry's of Sycamore that will help feed starving Children. Some other things we touched on include:  This year will be the 15th annual Feed My Starving Children MobilePack event, hosted by Make A Difference DeKalb County at The Suter Company!  This year's event will be held on Thursday, November 14 - Sunday, November 17 - and we'll have multiple volunteer time slots throughout all of those days.  Each volunteer time slot is 2 hours long, and we welcome volunteers ages 5+ (we just ask that children are accompanied by an adult(s)).  Make A Difference DeKalb County is dedicated to continuing to bring this extremely popular MobilePack to DeKalb County each year so we can continue to help feed children around the world.  In order to provide as many meals as possible and to continue to break our records, we're doing our first dine-out fundraiser of the year with our friends at Tom & Jerry's of Sycamore! The dine out night will take place on Monday, June 10 from 5pm - 8pm and Tom & Jerry's of Sycamore has graciously offered to donate 10% of all sales from that time period back to Make A Difference DeKalb County - all of which will go to fund even more meals for starving children around the world.  For reference: For every dollar FMSC gets, that's 3 meals for a starving child.  Many of our donations often come to help feed a child for a year - for example, $106 provides a meal a day for a child for a year.  For most of these kids, this is the only meal they receive that day.

I talked to Tom from the Kishwaukee Education Consortium (KEC) and Tom from Debutantes School Of Beauty today! We talked all about their partnership they do through KEC. Kids as early as Juniors in High School can do a program where they go to their high school during the day and take classes at Debutantes School Of Beauty in the afternoon. It's an amazing partnership that can really set you up for success! 

Rylie from Family Service Agency was our Guest DJ today! We talked all about their Community Action programs! Did you know it's Community Action Month? I learned a lot talking to Rylie today about what they offer and what Community Action is.

Elevate is a young professionals group through the DCEDC and they are hosting an event on Monday! Anna was our Guest DJ today and told us all about it. It's a speed-networking event to match up young professionals with a mentor! It's from 5-7pm on May 20th. It's free to participate but you must pre-register. Sara was our Guest DJ today and we talked all about Corn Fest! What to expect and more importantly, the need for Volunteers! There are several opportunities to volunteer and we went over some of those. 

John from DeKalb County United, Jenna, and Laura were our Guest DJ's today! We talked all about the DKCU Home Opener and also Familia Fest coming up on July 13th! It's going to be a fun filled day of family fun with Soccer as the backdrop. 

Heaven from the DeKalb County Mental Health Board was our Guest DJ today! We talked about Mental Health Awareness Month and Specifically the theme of this year which is “Where to Start in a Changing World”. We also discussed a community event on May 14th which is a showcase of art work and spoken word on their journey through Mental Illness.
