John Schmeelk sits down with the new Giants defensive lineman, Chauncey Golston, to discuss why he chose the Giants in free agency and how he could fit in on the Giants defensive line.

It's time to get inside the Giants. Let's go, let's go, let's go get my giants. Give me some jump. Part of the Giants Podcast Network.

Let's roll, and now we welcome in the newest member of the New York Football Giants outside linebacker, defensive end, defensive lineman. We'll get into that and a whole lot more with Chauncey Golston, who's a freezing edition coming over from the Dallas Cowboys.

Chauncey, welcome a board man.

Happy to be here.

So you played all across the line, That's why he kind of introduced you in that nebutous way.

What do you consider yourself.

A football players? The more you can do, it's all about availability. So you know, play three tech, four H special teams, you know, the more you can do.

All right, So about this must have it? Third down stop.

It's like third and eight, fourth quarter, you're up six teams, can't score touchdown?

You where do you want to rush the passer from?

Come on, now, we got kt we got Brian Burns, we got big and at the three.

Yeah, that sounds like I like that.

That makes sense because I think on a lot of passing downs last year when I'm back. And when I went back and I watched all your pressures, I think probably more of your presser and you know you're more of a defensive end right by trade outs a linebacker. But I think most of your pressures came from that three tech spot. Why do you think you're such a good rusher from that three technics?

So you know, tackles are usually the big, taller guys with the longer arms, and they they match my arm size. And then I go against the guards and the center the arms are a less shorter, easier for that stab the word you know, a lets slower.

It's funny you say that, And I was gonna talk to you about this.

I feel like a lot of your pressures came from using that long arm against the guards.

Talk about how you utilize that length in your passers.

Got to use the gotta use that guy given you gotta gotta use that and that that really just that was really honed in from my coaches in the past. Just like you can you can try to do to finesting. That's not truly your game. So you know, stick to the guy Givens. You got, you got thirty five inch arms, use him.

Get in here.

If you're lined up here, you gotta go over the middle with at the score great.

How do we make that happen?

I don't know, but Citizens does makes sense of your money with Citizens, Official Bank of Eli Manning.

The John Total podcast is brought to you by Citizens, the official bank of the New York Giants. From gaining day celebrations to your everyday financial needs, Big Blue fans can get the most out of every moment with Citizens. Learn more at Citizens bank dot com slash Giants.

So does he?

You know, you got some guys like Brian Burns who he bends the edge right. He also he has a strength and power to But you you're you're a pocket crusher. To me, you're a guy that you're gonna get the width of the pocket right and you're gonna kind of keep that quarterback trapped in there. Is that how you identify yourself as more of a power rusher.

Yeah, I would say that that would be my game. And then that helps you know, the quarterback got to escape over the top and push him out the pocket.

Ryan comes around. Goodness, get them one. You know.

Now someone looks at your stats and then say, well he had a breakout here last year five and a half sacks by far the most SACS had a year. Do you think it was a breakout year for you or do you think it was just a matter of you getting more of an opportunity because there were more snaps for you to play.

Yeah, more opportunity. And then also I left a lot on that plate, so there was some sacks that I left out there, and I'm like, dang, there's no way, there's no way, you know, just continue success and they'll make those same mistakes.

Do you think that you took a big jump in terms of the quality of her play from year three to year four? World, Look, I improved this technique, I got better at this, I got better at that. Or do you really just think I got more snaps so the production went up?

No, I think that I improved, especially like getting a new DC you had. There was like new techniques that we were doing, so like I wasn't able to be comfortable m and I played. I had got more received more reps inside, so that helped me more when I was on an edge going against tackles, and then I was playing like double teams from the outside compared to inside, and like, yeah, the guards may be slower in past passing situations, but when it comes time for a true double with those guards, it's a little crazy.

So that helped my game.

The Giants last couple of years have been really trying to improve their run defense. I think probably on early downas you're probably more of a five tech, right, seven tech than than a three tech. What do you bring in terms of run defense in that respect?

You know, first of all, tight ends. Tight ends never block you, you know, so you gotta have that like that, that gotta be in mindset. And the situation with the tackles. From playing inside more, you're more comfortable at playing against the tackle because the tackles they're more of the they don't really have to grind guys to get them up out of they're more like position you sometimes, you know, So just getting more comfortable in that from playing against the guards.

And I got to imagine too, with your length, you talked about it as a pass rusher set in the edge, right, you get your long arms out on that tight end of that offensive tackle, you kind of locate the runner keet moffy, and then you can go make the playokit too.

Right, mm hmm. That's that's essentially my game.

Yeah, you know something, I try to watch you guys before I talk to you a little bit. All right, So this is you went to Iowa when that was your college. This has kind of become Iowa East Coast a little bit. You have your head coach's two sons are here as assistants. I wrote him down so I make sure I didn't forget anybody. We got Casey Kreider, a long snapper. He was not with you there. Dame Beltum played with you there, correct, Amir Smith Marsette played with you there, and Tyrone Tracy play with you there.

You got all those guys.

Then we just hire Ladell Betts, who was the running backs coach when you were there too.

So what is it about?

You think, first of all, you're excited to be able to kind of reunite with with with all these Hawk guys here in New York.

Yeah, that'll be great, And you know, you know it would be more like with Dane because you know we play on the same side, but getting to see a mirror do his thing and Tyrone you know he was a receiver when I was at Iowa and seeing him like flourish at running back like that, that'll be nice, and then picking Casey's brain like if I, you know, if I get a chance to rush to punt, you know, ask him some ask his ask him some things about that.

So, so, what.

What did those guys tell you about New York when you were you know, considering, you know, should I sign with the Giants?

Should I not? It was so why'd you come here? Then? Why wouldn't I?

Like?

So my little league team was the Detroit east Side, Uh, the east Side Giants. So it was more so like a full circle moment like that was nice.

If you want to know how to manage two minutes of crunch time football, I'm your man. But if you're wondering about a long term financial plan, you should talk to Citizens. Hey, I can also talk long care. I'd like to learn about anniliar team. Yes, I knew I could help make sense of your money with Citizens. Have you talked to the guy since you signed here at all?

Yeah, I've talked to I've talked to them, but not we haven't like really went into depth with it. You know, I was supposed to hang out with Tyrone because he was coming to Dallas, and you know that might get put on hold without see him here?

Are you excited to kind of be back in the elements a little bit? You know, you said you're a Detroit guy, right, Obviously it gets cold in Detroit. Doesn't get so cold in down it's a little bit in the woods. But do you guys play inside it's not the same. Are you happy to be kind of back playing outdoor, you know, in like cold weather a little bit? Yeah?

Yeah, I've never.

Actually liked playing a true snow game.

Really, I've never liked school or anything like that.

Like I've had a game in high school, like I'm talking about like a snow game, like a real snow game, not like a talking about like.

Can't see the yard line.

Yeah, I've never So, you know, just will present me with that type of opportunity, maybe you.

Might, you might, you know, ever know. Final question.

So we talked about it on the field stuff off the field, anything that you have on your like New York bucket list, now that you're up here and you're gonna be here, that that you really want to kind of like dig your teeth into a little bit.

I'd say, I want to try. I want to do some you know, the one byte rule with some New York's slcense pizza. See what that's talking about. I'm more so just want to I want to learn more about what New York has to offer, because I like when you're in Iowa or you're in Dallas, I want to detry.

You're like you hear in New York.

But you the lens that you view with through is what movies portray.

So that's right.

Well, okay, I You've got a lot of food, to a lot of food, all types of food, wherever you want, a lot of food.

Broadway shows, I don't love. You're into that.

I've been. I've seen the Rockets.

Oh that's cool. All right, that's good. So you've been to the Garden? Then that that because that's usually where they perform or now.

I don't know, I don't know where we're at.

Okay, I imagine you were probably in the city. It matters to swear garden. Have you been to a nick game at the Garden yet? A?

Right? You gotta do that. Are you a baseball basketball fan? What do you like?

I like basketball. Baseball is a little.

Too slow, so it can be that's true, all right, So.

I would love to go to Yankees game, though, so I want to see that.

We'll make it happen. Chauncey Man, welcome a board man.

It's nice to me, and you appreciate it and have fun with Brian Burns, Caveon Thibodau and Dexta Lawrence upront Man.

That's gonna be fun to watch. More perspective, dude, I can't wait for it. Appreciate it. Chonsey Goldsend, one of the newest members in New York Football Giants
