South Africa's (SA) National Treasury and the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) are jointly supporting cross-border infrastructure in Africa through the "Legacy Initiative: The Ubuntu Approach," a priority project under South Africa's G20 Infrastructure Working Group.
The G20: PIC Perspective paper, Using Listed and Unlisted Financial Instruments to Fund Infrastructure on the Continent, notes that infrastructure financing in Africa faces several challenges, especially weak creditworthiness and poor project structuring, which hinder investment.
