Waves are all around us. Light waves enable us to see and to sense colours, sound waves help us communicate, and enjoy music. Waves can also heat our houses and even move mountains! 

But how can waves do all these things?  And what is a wave anyway? Well, if you’ve been to the seaside or dropped a pebble in a pond, you’ll already have an idea of what a wave is like.
