Rigoberta Menchú: English translation of Projo interview with Nobel laureate

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Nobel laureate Dr. Rigoberta Menchú Tum was in Providence recently to speak at the annual fundraising gala of the Guatemalan Center of New England.

For her work, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992 and is now a researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, (UNAM) in Mexico City.

She spoke with The Providence Journal Friday about her journey from a young indigenous woman in the Guatemalan countryside to labor activism to worldwide acclaim.
