In the wake of Monday’s snarled commute, a top state transportation official has promised to find some way to ease the flow of traffic on Route 195 west.
“If we can make any kinds of tweaks to improve traffic, we’ll make those adjustments,” David Fish, administrative project manager for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, said on Monday.
Lanes have shifted on the highway to accommodate reconstruction work on the northern span of the bridge, which carries westbound traffic from East Providence into Providence. And a busy off-ramp near the west end of the bridge, Exit 3 onto Gano Street in Providence, has closed for 18 months.
