John Carlos at URI’s Race, Violence and Democracy Colloquium

When he received the bronze medal in the men’s 200 meters at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, runner John Carlos was booed for his act on the podium.

More than 50 years later, at the University of Rhode Island’s Race, Violence and Democracy Colloquium on Wednesday night, he received a standing ovation for that act of protest.
