Rhode Island became one of the first states in the nation to make same-sex marriage legal in 2013, a move long sought by gay rights advocates.
"For me, in particular, it was the opportunity to marry the man I loved. I never thought that would ever happen in my lifetime," said Patrick Smock, whose served for years on the board of directors of the organization that pushed for Marriage Equality Rhode Island.
