NEWPORT, R.I. — Johann Sebastian Bach composed his “Toccata and Fugue in D minor” for the organ. But New York City-based harp virtuoso Bridget Kibbey has composed this famous work for her own 80-pound instrument.
She gave us a sample in a rehearsal room Tuesday morning at Ochre Lodge, located next door to The Breakers, the flagship venue of the Newport Music Festival where Kibbey is making her debut this season.
You’ll hear the piece in its entirety at a concert titled “ The Bridge Project” on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at The Breakers. You’ll have to excuse a little background noise — the sound of dishes in another room of the mansion just shows what a busy place it is at festival time.
