Talking tariffs

View descriptionShare

Business reporter Adam Orr joins digital editor Gabe Whisnant to talk tariffs, specifically the effect they could have on BMW's Spartanburg County plant. Tariffs on steel and aluminum, and proposed tariffs on U.S. exports by foreign countries, could deal a heavy blow to states like South Carolina, where exports are worth some $3 billion annually according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Earlier this year, U.S. President Donald Trump assigned steep new tariffs — 25 percent for steel and 10 percent for aluminum — on imported metals. The administration has also discussed the idea of new tariffs on imported European cars.
