The big footy issues from every angle, dissected by a team that follows the game closer than anyone else wherever you are around the planet. This is your ultimate guide to the AFL. This is the Fox Footy Podcast.

A full suite of games gave us a full suite of talking points from debutantes making an immediate splash to several shocking losses for clubs that have already prompted huge question marks over their prospects for twenty twenty five. And it's only taken two weeks for a triple tribunal treat with three players to challenge bands handed down to them in recent days. It's only around mine, but it's time for big overreactions. Plus Faaro Fast Mailbag, Sheeeds, musings, tips and cups and more. In the Fox Footy podcast, Ben Waterway with you, as is the man slowly getting over some Prstree heartbreak, Max Law and Hello MAXI too soon A.

Little bit sad weekend The Australian curse at the Australian Grand Prix continues. I should proably check the footy scores before we do this show.

If that's ay, that would be handed.

I was a bit busy on that one.

I'll give you. I'll give you a few moments to check the round one scores, also joining us ahead of a triple tribunal treat back in his natural habitat, David Zita.

Didn't take long, did it. No, she's right back into it. Opening round, just two matches of it. We're certainly back with a bang.

If opening round was exciting, it's the first dose of tribunal, no one would complain.

I feel like there's any really one that people are excited about, not excited about, but interested it.

Which is Jack, yes, correct? Which is because it's unique.

Well, it's very controversial. So there's three players challenging bands. David Jack Scrimshaw for his strikes on Jordan Ridley, which is left Ridley concussion.

The most important one because it's actually quite a good player.

Well, he's already missing one of those weeks, is.

In concussion, Yeah, Jackson Archer, as you mentioned. And then Tom Lynch. Let's start with Tom Lynch, who's got the one week. I don't know what they're doing, yeah, same, that was my immediate gup. I don't know what.

Maybe they're just having a crack, but it seems just by the book one week.

Will they take it? Will they are because of the push that he might have.

They could, they could, they could do that. But at the end of the day, his eyes went on the ball. He turned, he elected. Maybe did the elector bump. They can argue that, but I mean, I feel like the optics of it, it's just he's turned and bumped. Now, yeah, and he's up the grub. Maybe he could say I got pushed, so I was. I wasn't really at which point you control of myself.

They would be arguing nothing. They're saying it's not a reportable act because it's not his fault.

Yeah, exactly.

So I think that's probably the only real avenue. I don't see it getting off. But they they're in the top eight, so you're going to keep fighting the.

Final true, they're unbeaten to keep the unbeaten seasonal very soon.

So Screamshaw's got the strike it. Yeah, he's got got the three weeks. I think Jake Clark said on Saturday that they had to be graded severe. Do you agree that there was no other way to grade it other than severe impacts?

Well, the issue with the system is that you can't scale down. It's only so and this is the same with Jackson Archer and the same with Justin McInerney. It's either three weeks or zero weeks, because you can't there's no middle ground for impact because the precedent is that he was can cast, so it's automatically unless acsenuating circumstances, it's severe impact and the rest of it takes care of itself. So you can't really all you can really do, And the tribunal's got the MRI's got the ability this year to offer them just the flat three match ban instead of it having to go to a tribunal to try and limit the amount of hearings. But it's not working. But I mean it's an option, so I think we'll work with macinnerny.

He's accepted the three weeks. An't be surprised that the Swan's accepted McInerny straight up. Not really. The others that are going to the trial not really. Well, I just I don't think the others should dictate.

I think they made a pretty reasonable decision not to challenge because he's not he elected to bump. Even if it was an accidental head knock, that if guidelines are even if it's if you elect to bump, you suffer the consequences if and he was Yes, we know Starts just had his issues.

You can't blame that though, because he's more susceptible, but you can't exactly you elected to bump.

It results in concussion, and that's because a head knock you wear it.

So three weeks.

I think what they've done the smart thing. I wouldn't have challenged.

This is a problem with the system where effectively all of the scaling comes from the severity of the outcome, which makes it an outcome, not a process based system, which.

People get upset with and they don't understand it. But that's the reality of the system at the moment, so you have to work within it.

And the Jackson Archer tribunal case is going to be fascinating.

Yeah, well so different.

I'm actually really really interested in it because I don't I don't agree that he should have been suspended.

I just think it also takes you a lot to be interested in a trope.

I know, yeah exactly about Jackson Archer too. I don't care about Jackson Archer. He's fine. If he plays well, I will I just think he like just in terms of what it means. It's one of those watermark cases about what you can and can't do in footy.

So this is to describe it. John, who didn't say it sliding into the ball was clear from the dogs.

Yes, so he went to ground to pick up the ball. I just so I put out a tweet, as I do, and people got a bit annoyable.

There's lots of replies about you can't be serious if.

You were the first one to suggest that it would be three.

Well, I'm not saying so. I'm not saying that I agree with that.

I just I would like to think, given how much I do this particular area of footy media, I am pretty well attuned to how they think about things and how they assess things. And I thought, looking at reading the tea leaves under the MRO would say, well, you look, he's come from far away.

Did he do everything you reasonably.

Could in the circumstances, And potentially the MRO might think, no, he didn't. I'll give this three weeks. He's harsh, I'll offer him the flat three. It's stiff and it's a line ball. But you offer him the three, probably knowing you'll go to the tribunal and then you'll become more clear as a results as to what you can and can't do. I wouldn't have I wouldn't have suspended him. Sorry, Max, I wouldn't have. But I know how they think and I understand why they have. Doesn't mean I agree with it, but I understand.

What they have.

Yeah, you have to decide whether this is a reportable act in the first place, and then once you do that, it gets to three because of the matrix. Yes, it's really is it reportable?

Because once that's it, then the rest of it's unfortunately because of the system, and I think they would like to see some more.

Wriggle room there.

It's like, well, again, it's either zero or three, and no one thinks that's three weeks.

The defense is, well, he should have gotten a free kick. Yeah, because he was sliding into his legs, but because he would slightly second to the ball, that's his reportable act. That's why it's going to be so interesting on Tuesday.

Yeah, it'll be really Yeah, it'll be a really interesting case about and it's a very rare incident. But it's just in terms of knowing where the goalposts are. It's it's really fascinating.

Usually at the ends of the ground. Matthew Richardson with his theory on the wing, do.

You have an easy a on what time you're going to be finishing on Tuesday night?

No, he won't be finishing.

It might be Wednesday morning.

And what they'll do as well is put that one on. Third, of course, yeah.

They do tend to schedule them actually, now sometimes they do it different. But because they're all do they all Victorian Yes, yes, Richly, yeah they are. They don't have that because sometimes the w A factor complicates things.

But true, we don't have them as part of tomorrow trial. We don't have to consider them at all.

Yeah, they do it. It's like a no limit main event where they save save the main event until last.

They're all massive cards as we have friends limit Drake Paul, No, I don't think that.

When you saw his ass.

Yeah.

Do you think Jackson is any chance of getting off?

Yeah?

I actually do. Yeah, I think I think he. I tend to think.

He will those cases too when there's a genuine chance he was.

Yeah, I completely and I didn't think it was a question that northwould challenges and yeah.

And both coaches both Alistair Clarks and Luke Beverage post game. We're saying that it's part of a part of football's fortunate, very unfortunate outcome for Luke Cleary, but it's also an unfortunate collision just.

In the act of I think he's got the best chance of the three. But it's really fascinating that one.

So Max, she said, you were just trying to figure out the results from the weekend.

You check Thursday nights. That was the only one I got wrong. So yes, I did eight of ninety. I would be on a perfect season if if not for Richmond.

Over cart tip eight of nine this week. But did you tip the Giants? Yeah, well obviously because they Richmond.

Yeah, that's got to be one of the biggest I think you mentioned it one of the biggest upsets.

Yes, ever, that was so on betting odds. It's somewhere between the fifth and eighth biggest of the last fifteen years. Was first, those are the records. I think it was.

Gold Coast Sydney when the Gold Coast was that is the biggest outline game I've ever been a part of. Because that one Gold Coast was winless.

They were horrible.

It was at the SCG Sydney sixteen seventeen sday afternoon. I just remember the shock still, just that feeling.

The biggest upset is West Coast beating the Bulldogs at Marvel in twenty twenty three, oh when they hadn't won, which costs the Bulldogs finals.

They did.

Yeah, the Eagles were paying something around fourteen dollars. This is not for betting purposes.

It's collo as well.

West Coast.

Before it really before it.

Really went the bottom fell out. Surprise, it wasn't a couple of Gold Coast wins, but shows how bad they've been.

For who would you give rising starts to this weekly?

Different topic. Sorry, I don't like say.

I've just been doing a piece, David, A piece. I think I think we've got a glimpse of why there was so much around the Super Draft last year. How good is this draft? Yes, I know it's a minuscule one game sample size, but of the seventy one players and taken in last year's National Draft, sixteen debut in round one, and that included Lawler on Friday on Thursday night, who was a lot of incredible.

Luke Trainer had some really nice forms was nuts, wasn't it?

It was just yes, it was extraordinary. And then Isaac Kako with that strong, that strong performance. Murphy Reid left it all out there. Yeah, four goals in one quarter. Levi Ashcroft was initially going to be the sub, comes on and has twenty five. And then he saw Xavier Lindsay yesterday for Melbourne it was excellent under under pressure, Sid Draper in a very strong final quarter as well, coming on as a sub for Adelaide.

How do they do that? Why could he be the sub?

Outrage? Actually? And then Dolan Davidson for the Dogs fitted in quite nice. And you know Sullivan had sixteen for the Ruse as well. So I think you have to give it to I think you can give it to law La because he had a team high eight scorel kicked four in four minutes. Yeah, I know, but it was what's just as justin long year gracefully? What what? He didn't do a lot in quarters one, too and four like a lot of his teammates, but didn't do a lot in quarters one, two and four like a school bell. There's some sort of they're doing something next door. It's happening.

Fantastic anyway, it's a very close race, and yes, I think he does speak to the quality of that draft. That makes a lot of sense to me. So what you did there? Come in and have a great impact straight away the god.

Prix Lando Lando, Norris, Lando down Under from.

Vastapan from Russell pstre disappointingly spinning out, ruining his.

Cancers, isn't it.

There's no Australian evers has ever finished on the podium of the Australian Grand Prix, even though we've had a bunch of them starting second.

How Magagin going down the Warpla. That's just like did you you went? Didn't you? What Grand Prix went to?

The I was here yesterday, super the ticket, attended the events you went to.

Fashions on the field or whatever. Flammer on the greed.

I think fashions on the field is horse racing, correct. I do the ten Glamor on the grid because I am quite the flaw.

And to be fair, your date was your mum over I was like, that's so nice that you brought your mom.

I said, I'm going I was going with her actually on her plus one, So put some respect on Margaret's name.

One of the great socialites. Oh, just one of the great very walkhilanthropists.

Yeah, charitable yea, Leah. I mean she's not the one donating the money, she's organizing the doing.

But she's doing a lot of work getting there.

Just to be to be clear, our old colleague Riley Beverage, twenty four players debuted over every club's first game. Yes, over the last two weeks, so very depressive.

So just back on the Thursday night game, who does it say more about Richmond Cardon? Who did you come away thinking more strongly about? Well, I think more strongly about Carlton?

Yeah, right, because negativity, that's.

How the cycle works. No, all right, then what about Gelong and Freemantle on Saturday? What we are more strong about that? Cat's something win or the dot?

I thought that was Geelong being really good. Yeah, I was probably in that same camp.

It was, as Jake Nole used to say on this podcast, Geelong pornography.

They should have been around twenty four game. It felt like that. It's usually like there was that time when they beat Gold Coast and farro By like a hundred points back to.

Back, very very slick. Indeed, was the Geelong footed club also was bad? To be clear, Collingwood and Port Adelaide or to who did that say more about Port were pretty bad?

Yeah, and Collingwood I did say last week on the podcasting would be really good. Let's not overreact, right.

No, absolutely not. I mean everyone did, but.

Well that's not everyone did but me and then I was proven right. So that's what's important.

That's that's the most important in the world of Max. And now what about Adelaide and Kilda? Was that more about the Crows or the Saints?

Gee, the Saints were bad, but also the Saints have.

The excuse of genuine excuse of injuries like Jack mcgraymother that's true best player right now, which is he when he was discovered.

They were just they were poor. I think what Ross said after the match that they fell, they fell apart under pressure was probably apt, but it doesn't make any less sort of concerning because they're going to get put under pressure a lot this year, and if they crumble like that every time, they're going to be some pretty big margins. I actually think they salvaged it a bit at the end. It was looking like a hundred could be one hundred point realms.

But that game did make me feel bad about not having Adelaide as my top eight bolted okay, although later on Sunday Gold Coaster that was the next question.

Was it more about West Coast or Gold Coast? There's a lot of these kind of games throughout the weekend.

Yeah, there is rarely the clear answer. Yes, I think Gold Coast midfield genuinely looks very good and it should with the talent it's got in there. But West Coast, oh gosh, they are This is what happens when you slow roll the rebuild. Yes, they have still got so many passengers unfortunately, players who are you know, doing their job, would be a good bottom six of your list of your twenty two if you're an okay team. But when they've got limited star power and watermen getting injured and going off at halftime and things like that, then you've just gotten really no hope of competing with teams who genuine attendance for the eight. And it seems like there are still what thirteen fourteen teams who can contend, like even Essendon I came out of the week and feeling pretty good about them. Yep, So it's very easy to fall back from that pack.

Do you feel good about Sydney being zip and two.

Not about being Zippen too.

But I feel good about them generally wrong. They've had two strong opponents.

Yeh.

To start with, I.

Think I'm expected to score. They won against Brisbane. It was you know, it's when games are decided by a goal that you don't look into it too much. You say it was a close game and things happened. It's why I didn't think that collingwod was a disaster zone and that worked out. David just happened.

Here's what happened. But what was expected, it is what happened.

You know what the best part of the weekend was. It was Thursday night. I'm walking home. I went to see Mickey seventeen.

Actually, so I saw Nathan Buckley Glamor on the grid with his lovely partner Brodie.

He's suggesting that he's a clone.

Never so he he I thought to clone his physic at the moment, he's looking.

Very, very, very fit.

He said, it was like one of the words. He was really excited for it because he'd seen Parasite loved it.

That's my favorite moment all the time.

Really, Yeah, it was a very good movie and he was he said it was he was so upset and underwhelmed by it.

Pretty rubbish. Oh no, my girlfriend really liked it, so your mileage may vary. I just found it very odd, so lonely strange.

So why were you both so far apart on it? What was the did you agree on? What it was that?

I think she over and lost you. I think she enjoyed the level of discomfort the movie puts you through, and I didn't. Okay, I like a very I don't like clean in and out. Yeah, and I don't. I don't want to be feeling bad out of a movie.

Oh you're one of those people, even though the movies to be happy and stuff generally.

Yeah, So you don't want animal films, then no films, Adam. Pet films are always a very.

Much in the moment, you know, like Milo and otis, who you know Milo and otis?

I don't know.

That's why I said, who's a dog and a cat? And they run through like the forest like Marley and me? Yes, that that's that's brutal.

Yes, that really rex.

Here, No, I don't want that. But what I was excited about when I came out of the cinema. Yes, other than checking the score on my phone and going, holy crap, what night was this? So Thursday night we're seeing Adam Huse's press conference where he talked about how they lost the game when expected school.

I I literally, Max Max just appeared in my head when I saw that.

I was like, Oh, he's gonna love this because he recognized that, Yes, there was a level of fortune in the fact that they won that game and they thirteen four to what ten sixteen or whatever.

You know why Adam Muse focuses on expected.

Score because he's a smart man.

Doesn't have any aura.

He has statnd aura and that's what matters.

Doesn't have any aura, No Rita. Has that been blown out a little bit, but that's the aura stuff.

Yes, Rita, Panny, Oh yeah, we pretty pretty uh pretty viral.

I don't think necessarily Adam Use not having an aura has anything. I'm not sure if you realize this.

I was being facetious and sometimes.

Look Chris Fagan aura, you know guys like that, you know apprentiership coach.

I think everyone has an aura. It's just about what the aura is.

And I think generally a coach who would have aura would be someone who was like a successful player. Probably maybe a level of physical imposingness.

Maybe and as an aura is Kevin Sheedy will hear from him soon.

Is that coming back to that, it's staying it didn't know anyway, unlike you thoughts on the trans specific partnership or something that's much too more nuclear subs He loves them, probably.

Still being built back then, looking forward to hearing from Sheets a little bit later on, but before that, it's time for this and.

Now on the Fox Footy podcast and the strong edition of Australia's favorite segment, Fair or Fast.

That you're getting political, Thank you, David. That's the ou the Aucus or August.

I think it's nothing at the moment. It's it's more just orc at the moment awkward August part.

It's not really sta If a w A club had a deal on the table for Brandon Stacevich, it would be wise to remove it now as brutal as that is or fast very brutal.

Where's the table so that they can both reach it?

Though somewhere in the middle somewhere is on the border of the Northern Territory in South Australia.

It was not much there, just a table apparently what is the is it?

So he's had his second concussion in three games and he's third in eight months. Yeah, and he's out of contract at the end of the Sea's eligible free agency, and apparently club and player at the moment are quite a fair way away. He's a wa product.

Yeah, I would be as harsh as the reality is that it would be fair like I would be reconsidering and just holding off until I mean, at what point do you have to go before that medical panel that we hear so much about, and whether it's player lead or PA lead or management.

Lead or club lead.

Yeah, it just seems like he is. It's really concerning that that's the number of concussions in a short period of time.

So I'm first and foremost his.

Health, but I think long term, I think massive contracts and long term at the moment has to take a back seat until he's absolutely crystal clear and sure that his long term health isn't going to be at risk if he keeps playing beyond this year, if he doesn't recover well from this concussion.

So I haven't had time to pull them up, but I know the AFL didnt implement those new rules around contract payouts for players with concussion. Yes, so I think it's around. They pay out roughly three years, but a decreasing level of the deal. Yes, so you would consider.

But that's depending on him having a deal, which he doesn't.

But so, what I'm saying is if he played out the rest of this, he came back, played out the rest of the season, you were worried, but not thinking, Oh, he's no chance of seeing out a three year deal. You could offer him that and it would be an acceptable level of risk for a team like West Coast who really needs reinforcements for example. You're true, so you would consider that.

True, Max, I know you love the non footy sort of physical stuff.

Harley Reed.

It's me Harley Reed is keener on a fight than he is to play footy fair or fast.

See those clips on a first crack, it was a bit odd seeing him being well. The main thing that stood out to me was the flopping, the one where he running runs inside of your charge. Cops are relatively soft, whack to the chest and collapses as if he's been shot.

Mouthing is moiling off for a bit of Gold Coast players.

I can understand a game that is not going well for your team might prompt more of that, to be honest, because you're just like, hey, you're trying to get yourself up, you're trying to get your teammates up and stuff like that. It's not ideal. It's something that a teenager will deal with. It's something for your first year coach like Andrew mccoltter to try and deal with and talk him through. So, hey, mat go, you know, we want to be we want to be able better than this. It's this is the time when you go through that growing process as a team and as a player. So I'm okay with that, and it's a coachable moment.

Max mentioned how was he?

Were you fair of did you say yes?

Sorry, who's drilling into our roof? It's pretty distressing, Stephen. Yes. Max mentioned how tough this season could be for West Coast. Can you see there being a tipping point here?

With Todd Walbridge.

Point West Coast throughout literally next door, with so many questions about his future?

I may have I was getting to carried away. Do I think there's a tipping point?

Do you think a tipping point may may come here? If it doesn't get any better for West Coast?

I don't think so, because he's still got another I don't think. I don't think his ability long term is quit. Everyone's it's going to be fine.

I think it's just feels like the West Coast are very, very very keen to get him locked down long term, and he doesn't want very keen to get.

Him well either way, he's not ready to make up his mind yet, so he's not going to make it up one way or the other. He's just not making it up. He's holding his cards close to his chest, which is his prerogative. I wouldn't be doing anything yet. It's not like he's it seems like, given the interrupted preseason he's had, he's not going to be sort of barnstorming in the early rounds of the season. I think he can just work his way focus on that first, and then then focus on his future because he's making a lot of money and a long term deal wherever he goes. I don't think he needs to worry about that yet.

No, certainly not. And there was a suggestion during the off season that West Coast was needing to recruit to make the team better immediately to convince him to stat yes, I did just read that yet, But that wasn't really what happened through the offseason. They just continue rebuilding and they are where they are and they understand that. And mccaulter's messaging all preseason it's been hey, there's a long way to go. We're betting in this new game style. It will take some time. So they run into a pretty bad round one game. But teams can lose big in the early rounds and still do Okay.

Zeita Harley read's a good friend and fellow twenty twenty three drafting Nick Watson the Wizard now unpied it differently fair or fast, coming off the back of a controversial non free kick against the Inny Hawthorne essenon game on, you think he's being jack in it, Well, I'm just posing the questions.

So, yes, you don't have any very good luck arbiter. Yes, Halo too.

Yes, that's that's great Halo.

Three even one of the great series.

Those Combat evolve back in the day, Yes, loved it. Played the demo fen minutes Blood Gulch.

Yep, what that was the map right on the first That was the one with the war Hog. Yes, yes, where Red versus Blue filmed all there?

Nick Watson. I think he sorry, Ben he, I think I think he is. I think they're a bit more aware of him, like they are with a.

Few small forwards here and there, like certainly with Jack, rightly or wrongly.

And I think it comes into their mind and they know what players might be looking for something and what aren't, and maybe it plays into their.

Heads a bit. I think it's probably fair. They're humans, the umpires.

He is upied differently.

It's actually correct. Some people call them other names during football.

Matches, but no, they're humans, and he's made a rod for his own back. He shrugs to try and draw free kicks. We know that umpires are aware of this, and in the circumstances against Estin and specifically, I think that was one of the most borderline ones you could have where he was about to or starting to shrug to try and get a high tackle and then high contact was made. So you can totally understand why watching it in live you saw the shrug happening as he was getting contacted high. So if you watched it on slow mow and replay, you might think, oh, I know the high time attack game first, fair enough, but this is what happens when players put themselves in these situations. Unfortunately, it's a viable tactic. It can work for you, but it can also cost you, can.

I think also career. At the end of fair far I got a couple more talk about it later. Speaking of rules, Max brad Scott had every right to be flum mixed about a deliberate rush behind call on Friday night, fair or fun us.

What was brad Scott's title at the AFL was General manager of footy?

Yes?

Was he in charge of the umpiring department at one.

Point come under that umbrella?

Yes, under his portfolio. They haven't changed the deliberate behind rules for a few years. I'm pretty sure I believe it's been the same so in his time as it is now, the behind rule has I think four parts to it. They're not and they're oars. One of the oars is that if you had time and space to dispose.

Of the ball or such a Max Sands, Yes, yes.

The awesome forceome you have time to dispose of the ball. Was that Atlanta Olympics ninety.

Six at Barcelona?

Sorry, yeah, no, I just remember them. I don't. I didn't watch it.

If this person doesn't stop drilling into this roof, there will be issues well, because it's really frustrating.

I hope that they don't and they don't like have the roof fall on us.

I think this is what you must feel like when I just keep interrupting what you're trying to say.

With my crap. So yes, os Max, Sorry, the rules Sorry.

The Oars and the rules are. There are different ways that you can determine whether a player is deliberately rushing her behind, and one of them is having time and space to dispose of the ball. Andy McGrath for the Oars and this situation did and then slipped over and then went backwards and was under immediate pressure at that point, but before that he had the time of space to dispose of the ball chose not to put himself in that situation. It's a clear deliberate rush behind. I think people see a lot of different rush behinds during the year that they think could be called or couldn't be called, and get a little bit confused because there is this stuff about oh, you're inside the nine, you can do what you want, it's not the rule. And a lot of stuff in footy with the way that people react about umpiring is misunderstanding the rules. I'm not asking everyone to read the rule book because it's boring as hell and it's hard to understand that the rules vat exactly. That's why the umpires still struggle with it sometimes.

But they are only human.

They're only human, and there are so many situations where people get annoyed at something that they think is the rules and isn't, and this is one of them.

Thank you. Max Isiah Simon Bars would have been happy with Seth Campbell's goal celebration fair or fast.

That was very good. I don't think you would have been. It would have been very below path for her.

You reckon so fast.

I personally got more out of Sama Luler's, but I did enjoy Seth Campbell's.

He was very happy.

Yeah, it's really feeling the cock of the wall. Sorry, that's the saying the what Anyway, he was happy?

Okay, thank you.

Yes, that's a reference. That's a reference to someone at the office.

Yes, is that the end Max got on off and adelaide oval standoff has put relations between Cricket Australia and the AFL at a new all time low. Fair off.

Who better to ask than me, mister cricket himself.

Yes, Mike Max Lawton, that's.

That's not at the end. Yeah, just go over it, loyal fox cricket talent.

Yes.

By the way, I don't know about all time low. I'm sure there was some times in the forties and fifties when they clashed about ground rules fifty well, because the cricket like owned the grounds and they when they started filming games, they were like getting a huge chunk of the profits. It's not they're not happy with it. I don't understand the afel's point of view that they've got a game on a Saturday and then a game on a Sunday the week later. I think it was, yes, and then they don't want to put a cricket game in the middle of it because cricket pitchers are not conducive to a nice football ground generally, and the relationship when cricket and footy is always terse at times. I suppose when you have the overlaps in March and when we hand the game back to cricket and stuff like that. So I can understand why it would be a bit touchy about this. The Sheffield Shield Final, which is what they wanted to play Adelaide Oval.

Yes, I know the historic is not the pinnacle of domestic cricket.

Look Tim Zura in his day, Tim, I'm sure the Sheffield shield Man, isn't he a fighter? That's Tim zu Tim was WA's best wicket keeper until a young man called and Gil Chris came along, and that loyal fox foot he tellents you served him. But you know in his day. Sure, the Sheffield Chield Final, maybe that gets precedents. Maybe not these days. Look the red Backs, I'm sure they wanted.

To host it there, but Carrot not the red Backs anymore. They're not They're just the South Australia pretend.

Oh that's horrible. Oh well then I'm completely on the AFL side. He bring back the red Backs?

What I would have we done? Now?

So my we got some feedback. Are we doing Malbury?

Why are there so many state teams name after Killers?

Well, I've got a Bush Rangeers, Brandon Flowers. What I think is interesting to Warriors have gone to so people. I saw last week there was a comment that said, because last week Will Falkman was on the podcast, no.

The utensil wasn't us.

So I did note this question. Yeah, so hold on, is this we're going to go to the next segment.

Let's get into the next segment on the Fox Foody podcast. It's time to open up the mail bag. Have a question for the panel tweeters every Monday morning at Fox Footy.

I've thrown to myself, so it's on the self thrown because Flagland Hills, you candy every Monday morning tweeting. We're just sidelining bend week by week. Tweet in Monday mornings. You can get your questions answered, like Flaglin Hills has Who's Twitter buyer? By the way, Flaglin Hills, is this person there big fan of Fox Footy journalist Will Faulkner, Right, Actually.

That's the I thought it was something about he wears underwear. He doesn't wear underwear.

Perhaps it's changed, but that's.

Because when I checked it, he's thing. Well, this was someone who had it was said it was great not hearing like my dribble.

Oh that was a different person who said that. I was someone else.

Yeah, there's multiple complaints. So this is what was going to lead into my question. Do you think that is it better for me to not This is probably an off conversation I'd love to.

Let listeners in.

If people think that there's too much of FAF and too much of me in this, I'm happy to not do it. I'm being genuine as if people don't enjoy it, then it's fine.

I think the people who have stuck around enjoy the FAF to be fair and have listened for our personalities and dynamic. They're not listening because we are the most insightful football people in the world due to our legendary lot.

To listen to and listens to and follows the game closer than That's what I've heard.

At the start of the show every week. But other than that, you know, we're just still voicing. You can't do that.

She's not here, she doesn't live here anymore.

Shoud I get the Sarah oly version back. No, she's not hearing even less out of day.

So anyway, if people would like to, they are happy for you to just.

It's not sacking.

I'm stepping down. I'm happy to stop. We're having We'll hand over to the.

Utensil would have been Cotton revolving a weekly sort of rotation coaches not so.

On three six, the.

Question from Flaglin Hills was could a justification please be provided as to why Phil will Faulkner has been dropped this week. Thought he put in a good Round one performance last week and think it's important to expose the youngsters to more airtime. But we're not rebuilding, that's the thing. We're an older list. We're competing for a podcast flag.

And sometimes when Marcus Bond and Pelly is ready to return at the side, you gold let him back in.

Expect I didn't expect Max to say Tim Zu on the podcast. I didn't expect Zea to compare himself.

To the Bond that was done taking cheap. Yes, I should like you're more of a Sam Day sort of, you know, felling Sam Day Sam Day important.

But you know anyway, Will was Will's great, as his band, as his jack, They're all great.

They want to come on and do it.

I'm more than happy to see the space.

We need you for your connections. How else connection tennis superstars on the show. Famous British rappers retired. Unfortunately he's he doesn't own a phone. Now does leapers in Melbourne? Do you do it? You don't do it? Du leaper pressure to a leaper.

I don't do a leaper.

Disappointing.

She's engaged, though, so congratulations to very much so many a sad person.

I'm sure we continue the continue to open up the mailburg thank you to every.

It's not really opening, it's already opened. Okay, well you know we gotta open up further to dig into the bottom, right down the bottom. The best letters read the bottom of Jason Little asks with Laylor and ask Lawler Jerry the King Lawler every time after a mimber Jerry Sam the King Lawla.

How good Adam Simpson, by the way, so this is related, but he's not. He's really good at Yeah, he's great, excellent, he's great. I saw a Reddit thread about him like he's been really good.

A lot, not a lot I agree with on the A f L read it these days.

It was an appreciation thread about him, and I've thought it was really app He's done very well since.

With John Longmire on Wednesdays on three.

Horse and Adam Simo and Horse.

If it was Horse and Adam, I don't have a nickname, mate, come on the horse. Speaking of Lawla and Ashcroft, the two favorites of the Rising Star, what is more important to get numbers and the ball and the team that most likely won't win a lot, or if you're a mainstay in the top four sides midfield and get less stats, got the phone.

Let's have a look at the rising Star winners from past.

It could be it's going to be a very interesting philosophical to debate if we get a few players of the Lawla and Ashcroft mold who play out great seasons. Laura is not going to have that game every week. He's not gonna have that not gonna have that game most weeks. It was one of the better games. Is the question? What like?

What's more important?

That was literally the question.

You look at recent times on Dempsey played in a team that made the prelim final, then Harry, She's all the year before one in a team that finished second, bottom or bottom.

But keep in mind that Dempsey only won it because the guys who got.

That's right reed which he indulged es ince.

And thanked Jesus Nick Dakos.

He should be thinking Colling.

He also did that, yeah.

Too, Luke Jackson won in twenty twenty one when the D's won the flag. Yes, Caleb Sarong Freeman on twenty twenty mister finals, Sam Wash Carlton twenty nineteen they were in the finals, I.

Would imagine, so it was Carlton.

Jade Stevens in twenty eighteen was Collingwood they made a Grand Final?

They did.

Andrew mcgra come. Did the Bombers play finals in.

Twenty six they did, they didn't win one. Did they play Sidney? That sounds all right, yeah, too easy Mills.

In twenty sixteen Sydney played in the Grand Final against the Dogs Jesse Hogan Melbourne twenty fifteen. They hadn't quite started their run sension, had.

They no eighteen?

So that's they're the past ten years. It's a real mix. But there's a lot of there's a lot there, I reckon every second year there's a winner that is playing in a team that's making a prelimit.

In that year, or are we in the other year?

We are not in that year this year? Right, So these he's law.

I think Ashcroft is more likely to win it because he's more like to be consistently good, yes and visible. If he's the sub, well then he wouldn't be.

I don't think he's been the sub. After his performance on the weekend, he was nearly the sub. Nearly what he was.

Duty was the sub.

He was the people for saying you anyway.

Then things changed, correct, things can change. Thank you someone who knows about change. Obama, Becky Obama. He talked about change and hope and stuff. That's what your sister begging. Yes, yes, hello again?

Certainly changed over there?

She asks, can you give your thoughts on King's commentary that the Long Goodbye doesn't work?

He loves the Long Goodbye? Ronan keating every time that song comes up as well, just in time for Mother's Day? Which one is that this is the long Goodbye? That song? I don't remember that, I just know cheesy balance.

Love is it life? Or love is a roller coaster?

I love is?

I think it's love is a love is a roller coaster?

And then I just I de seeded you.

Sorry, but it's quite deceitd How could you use it name for adjective to add fun and spice to the podcast? That's what you meant with it? Yes, so put Adelaide in the handover Josh Carr and Ken Hinckley. Is it really worthwhile? Too early to say on whether they've made a mistake?

So ask us after round four or five because they got a pret good.

How so it's too early to say too early to say it is too early to say it's one bad game.

How it works, you don't have that category in your fear of FAST's not fair fast, or too early to say on the one AFL three sixty it's not real overaction.

They say real is Sometimes they do say issue they cheat. Look, the Ken Hinkley situation always fluctuates wildly between so we're so back and it's so over.

That's a roller coaster.

So not just love like they're already back to it's so over. It just happens like put out, Like three games ago, lost a home qualifying final by a million points. Then they won the next week and had a prelim, So things happen.

In the next four weeks they play Richmond, who are currently seventh from the AFL Ladder, remarkable Essendon at Marvel sin Kilda, and then they play Hawthorne. So the next ask us in four weeks. I reckon if Hawthorne.

They should be banking too at the very least.

If they're not too two, then it's a disaster. Yeah, but that's when you can panic. We're it's the industry we're in. Luckily for them, there were a lot of bad losses on the weekend that they can work and Carltons is pretty big, and it was.

That it was Thursday. Yes, yeah, we just sort of forget about things, silly.

Yeah, finally we'll go. Let's enter grammar corner just for a moment, because Steve, like grammar Corners, has to ask why do AFL commentators believe that laconic is a synonym of casual or.

Relaxed, Because it's not lazy.

It's laconic is according to the second Google result I found, what about? What about the first? Well, that was the automatic dictionary thing, And I don't trust the first result on google ingm because yeah, it is a bit jarring. The dumbest Darren the world. I did not say that about Darren Jarman. The conic is using or involving a minimum of words concise to the point of seeming rude or mysterious.

It should it be more? Should we be saying laxadaisical?

That would be better. That's too long, So we I did think before this question laconic, I associated it with easy going. Yeah, that's what I thought it meant.

That's not what the words very I feel that it's a wildly misunderstood word, and it is.

It would be up there one of the most can start a campaign a trend here David on the Fox Foody podcast to eradicate laconic out of commentary vernacular.

I think people that try to eradicate me out of the Fox Footy podcast, which is that's what I've detected, making it all about you?

So we there have another segment to get to. Yeah, we're two more segments? Right, are you going to throw the sting?

There's not David?

If you are sorry, mate, you can realize do you want to make one?

Give Kat turkical will cost you international rights because she's not in the country anymore.

But if you want to call her and get the record an.

Intro, I get you the intro to she's his wisdom, Kevin. There you go, perfect pockets of greatness. Oh no, you know what we should do?

Play the thing from the Home Alone when she.

Goes play that when on the plane she realizes he's not he's home alone.

Let's play that. Here's the next segment. Here's our next segment.

That's it.

Thank you woman from that movie.

That's she's very Famous's Creek.

Yes with a c h.

Catherine O'Hara, Oh, mayor the mum j gro mirror. Yes, she's the mum and she was also and she was really good.

Shit's Creak.

I watched that for the first time on Christmas. Actually, that's okay.

Were you home alone?

No, it's with my family.

Oh, you're watching it with them the first time.

I've seen bits and pieces of it, the full movie number one. Yeah, and your thoughts are very good. I can see why it's the classic and then dieharde I.

Thought, you see, watch It's Creek for the first time.

That's what I thought. Reference It's Creek.

No, very good show to have on in the background. Just do it.

It's a good show to just have. Yes, Sorry, Margaret's I can't take this now.

Are you sure she has been? She has been a loyal contributed with my life.

At the moment, I won't be taking that car, okaying air conversation.

That Jess's Pockets of Greatness of the week.

It's one of the great pretenders. I am that.

I'm happy we know that Kevin she he loves to give his wisdom and he gives it here in this book from nineteen ninety six, and then I read it to you another reading glory. It is very difficult to know everything about anything, though, let alone everything about everything. What with the bloke in the street know about real politics, real science, real medicine, real business. You have to trust the experts to do some of your knowing for you, But suppose they betray you. It is very difficult to know about the land, the sea, the air, weather, telecommunication and so on, things that impact on your family. It is amazing how many things you don't know. People like me don't mind the marvels of science. When we can push a button on the TV and watch sport being played on the other side of the world. We don't understand it, but would object it in a few with our lives. We don't like it when it affects our lives, but we enjoy watching it when it has something we want to see.

You don't push a button on the TV. Actually, maybe back then you did push it on the TV.

Excuse me, sorry.

Rubik's cube is absolutely brilliant. Incidentally, why didn't an Australian inventor How do you run a profitable sandwich shop open a shop where a lot of people want to buy.

Is that all unedited? Yah? Yeah? Is that all in the same paragraph or or the like.

You can't be reading this as you can't be reading this as a continuous.

I think I skip over one line about some children dying, but that was about it.

Sorry again for the religious glory pretending it's a religious reading.

It is for me, But I don't understand what he's How do you run a profitable sandwich shop?

You make good sandwiches and you sell them at a decent price.

I love Nobody said, but what's what's the purpose of the book giving your pockets of greatness?

Look, he's giving us field So it's like it's a massive unedited stream of consciousness.

And that's why we love it. Thanks she Kevin. How to finish off the show, we have the tips and the cups of the Tipsy.

Yes, the cups are back. The cups are back. Yes, I was able to get a few down here Carlton and Hawthorne for the Daniel Harford Cup. Yes, Half Time well known radio presented.

I spoke about my ladder with half on his shows in contributed. I love my horse.

Racing, so you know, someone asked me for a number, that message them in your number and without asking you if you give them your number.

Sorry, I really appreciate it. I knew you'd say yes about me.

The amount of times you've probably fobbed fobbed us off to radio stations, to the digital team, David.

I, and then if I got off to junior members of the team.

Yes, because at the start it's so exciting and you're like, no, I can't I got stuff to do.

Yeah, but they're good. What was the Hawthorne Hawthorne? As I said with the expected to aw, I'm not panicking about Carden. They will respond, but Hawthorne is a very very good team right now.

Western Bulldogs and Collingwood for the Jordan Roughed Cup played for correct that please is Footscray of Footscrade this week you were at win Noble rebranding to foots Gray for the round two game.

But they could be their biggest it's one hundred year anniversary.

It could be their.

Biggest ever home crowd home and away home crowd, because their biggest is only I think just to tick under sixty thousand.

Well, and it was.

I would suggest that's probably due to playing colling right, it was it was.

They played Collingwood in that in that game in nineteen ninety nine. I think it was a ninety three in round one, So they're hoping they can't give it. I think they'll get the biggest ever home crowd this week. He would more than sixty thousand would go, wouldn't they? Well, yeah, on a Friday night, Collingwood's playing.

The Dogs are good.

Well, yeah, it's not home game though it is their home game, but it's not, but in reality it won't be. But it is their home game, So congratulations to them on selling a home game ineffect.

It's literally their home game.

But there's going to be more Collingwood fans there than Bulldogs fans who cares it's their home but that's what makes it a home game, and whether they have a better chance of winning.

When I look at AFL tables in a week, it's going to come up as the highest attended home game they've had.

And it's going to also say that Collingwood won.

Geez, that's a really good sound. I was good, but you actually I'll go Collingwood. Yeah, it isn't. In an Adelaide for the Hayden Skipworth Cup. Oh yes, finished skip was was he very close in the West Coast job last year, just lost out to Andrew.

He was at Marvel or MCG actually at the MCG straight game for the weekend at the MCG. It's right, I'm leaning Adelaide. They were very impressive, isn't It wasn't that bad either. You know they're in it. But I'm leaning Adelaide right now.

Important Adelaide, important game. Port Adelaide and Richmond for the an My Cup. Port has to respond Power poor Power, sin Kilda and Geelong for the Charlie Gardner Cup.

Yes, Sydney isn't even involved, that's right.

Geelong Geelong, the Saints always have a knack of making it's difficult for the Cats off normally.

Yet they beat them late last they didn't.

Yeah, I think Geelong though still normally yet they have normally ten to have a game two or three weeks out from finals year.

But again that was yeah, the two years before that, that was the game they sealed the boy in the finals twenty three. Look they get too many injuries right now.

Brisbane and West Coast for the Brad Dalziel Cup. Brisbane Brad spelled b R A double D.

Of course, it is double d yes, Brad by a bit, Brisbane.

By a bit, Prison by a lot, or by bit.

Got Brad on the brain. Yes, I was trying to be nice to West Coast Brisbane by a lot. Yeah.

I feel like you're going to be riling up West Coast fans a lot of this year.

I've been realistic about the big club. I didn't say anything bad. It's not my fault. They lost by a billion.

You sure like we'reminding them though they lost.

Brisbane wins for you there, David, Brisbane will win quite coming.

I've said that three times.

West Coast hot.

The Kangaroos and the Demons brend Allison cup on the line here.

I feel good about Melbourne right now.

Yes, very very strong. The city first up before.

Well the city is weekend. Yeah, like arguably should have beaten GWS, had their chances late, just lose the key little moments things happened, but then midfield looked very good.

You've got to be their DNA back.

Yeah.

Yeah, that was like the best loss of the weekend in terms of ye. It was very optimistic. How Simon Goodman spoken his post match pressent too. So I think they're going to be pretty good.

I think the Digity guys gave the same A minus grade to Melbourne and I would agree with that. The report cards always quite The people take way too serious, extraordinarily seriously. I tell you what, people in a computer just writing.

A letter in a computer. We're all digitalized on a computer with a Diggy team. Because it's a bad expectations, Melbourne will beat North Melbourne Melbourne.

It's still a very impressive win by the Giants.

And North weren't terrible like the War. They were good. Quite under strength in the midfield was there, but they just looked like a young team.

North.

I needs to kick straight that would help. They'll win some games this year.

And then last game is Fremantle against Sydney for the Troy Cook Cup. Interesting game.

This is the hardest game of the round to tip for mine.

Who are you tipping?

I'm leaning Fremantle because I don't want to abandon my pre season priors, which were that Fremantle could be a top four team based on one bad result at the hardest place to play in footy, which is long and July.

Do you think Sydey you go zero on three? I don't think they will.

I feel like they I feel like they will win. But if they weren't zero two and Frere I hadn't lost that game like that, you would think, oh, you know, this is too relatively similar team, But they did.

I know this is your thing. You have these like over if this then that that happened.

Yeah, but you can't only look at that happening. You have to remember the yifts because you have to remember what you thought over an entire preseason and what you thought about.

I go on evidence and the evidences. Fremantles suck and Sydney sucked, but also not as much at the moment.

Wow, they have based on one round too.

That's true. Actually they've lost two more facts. But the way that says more of an I think people want screen record that.

I'm not saying they suck as a football club. I'm saying currently they're not good on the field.

Because they weren't. They lost one game, yes, and they lost it very badly. We'd lost one game very badly and then one by sucked for a week, and now they're really good. That's not how it works.

Well, that's how it works for me. Let me live in my world.

You're gonna get your tips in this week.

I got them in last week. I emailed them to you.

Did you yes them?

Do you tend to ask me for them? I said, I emailed them the Max yesterday I got I sent them to you. I checked my email as well. I sent them.

I did send them this is great podcast which I didn't get any tips from your last max is Max.

I sent them through for the.

Love you're gonna have. Otherwise you're gonna get a bunch of away teams, which is not going to go well for you.

Hear more of Kevin's musings next week. Will hear David next week? I'm sure we will.

He's hoping not clearly?

Don't go you hope? So is that the end? Yes? You have to say your thing. Yeah. Keep clicking back to Foxfooty dot com dot Au. Yeah, I might not be on it.
