Join hosts Shelly and June Volk on For Zion's Sake as they explore the deep significance of the fall feasts, focusing on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement). Reading from Leviticus 23 and Leviticus 16, Shelly and June walk through the high priest's duties, the cleansing rituals, and the symbolic roles of the two goats—the sin offering and the scapegoat. Discover how this most holy day on the Hebrew calendar serves as an intricate, prophetic picture of the complete, once-and-for-all atonement accomplished through Jesus the Messiah.

Key Takeaways:

The Sacredness of Yom Kippur: Known as the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur is the most holy day on the Hebrew calendar, observed with fasting, complete rest, and deep self-denial.

Meaning of Yom Kippur: Derived from the Hebrew word Kaphar (meaning "to cover"), the day centers on seeking atonement and repentance before God.

The Role of the High Priest: High Priest Aaron had to first offer sacrifices for himself and his household before he could intercede and make atonement for the assembly of Israel.

The Two Goats: One goat served as a blood sacrifice on the mercy seat inside the veil, while the live goat (the scapegoat) bore the confessed iniquities, transgressions, and sins of the people away into the wilderness.

Foreshadowing of Messiah: The yearly sacrifices of the Old Covenant were preliminary patterns showing God's specific plan for redemption, ultimately fulfilled permanently through the cross.

Scripture References:

Isaiah 62:1 – "For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not keep quiet..."

Leviticus 23:26–32 – The commandment regarding the Day of Atonement as a perpetual statute.

Leviticus 16:3–22 – Detailed instructions for the High Priest, the Tabernacle sacrifices, and the two goats.
