Millennial pop singer Britney Spears has at least two allies on Capitol Hill, one of them being Republican U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida. Gaetz, along with Jim Jordan of Ohio, signed a letter Tuesday requesting a congressional hearing to examine conservatorships like the one involving the singer. Spears was placed in a conservatorship in 2008 following her public breakdown. Her father Jamie was put in charge of her care and finances. Fans have protested the arrangement under the "Hashtag-Free-Britney" banner. The "Framing Britney Spears" documentary released last month has brought new attention to the situation. Gaetz told Vanity Fair the documentary inspired him to examine "failures" in the current system.
