If you've been out along St. Johns County's beaches lately, you may have spotted a curious, strangely beautiful turquoise-colored creature wash up on shore. Local biologists say it’s a blue button jellyfish, The St. Augustine Record reports. The aquatic species is easily identified by its long fanning tentacles surrounding a center disc and, of course, that cerulean blue hue. Mark Q. Martindale, the director of the University of Florida's Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience in St. Augustine, Florida said "they can sting, but it doesn't really penetrate human skin.”
