The Publix and Kroger grocery store competition has moved from the checkout lane to the streets — and Florida consumers may be the ultimate victors. A report by industry analysts shows overall online grocery sales increased 4.7 percent in August, compared to a year ago. Customers now have more choices than ever when it comes to grabbing groceries — and from curbside pick-up to doorstep delivery and ship-to-home, they couldn’t be more convenient. Kroger, an Instacart partner, began offering its own delivery service in Florida in June, focusing on Sarasota, Jacksonville and Tampa, with plans to expand its abilities, according to the Lakeland Ledger. Publix, which has long dominated the Florida market, relies on Instacart alone. Amazon has also entered the local market, announcing drive-thru grocery pickup and additional warehouses and jobs for Florida.
