Attorneys for Florida families of children with disabilities have filed a motion in an effort to block an executive order by Gov. Ron DeSantis (de-SAN-tis). The 34-page motion seeks an injunction against the governor's order, which prevents schools from instating mask requirements as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. The filing Thursday said children with disabilities are more susceptible to severe illness or death if they contract the coronavirus, and argues the executive order discriminates against them. The disabilities lawsuit was first filed in August, and includes the families of 15 children with a variety of disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism-spectrum disorders and chronic kidney disease. The latest motion was filed while the group’s appeal of a lower-court ruling moves forward.
