An Orlando man pulled from the surf in Ponce Inlet late Thursday morning died at the hospital, Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue officials said.
The 62-year-old man and his wife entered the ocean in an unguarded area of the beach in the 4600 block of South Atlantic Avenue around 11:41 a.m. and found themselves in trouble in the rough surf, said Ocean Rescue Capt. Tammy Malphurs. A beachgoer saw the couple in the water with the woman screaming for help. The person called 9-1-1 and then entered the water to help the couple.
