An experienced Florida surfer who has had close encounters with sharks had an actual encounter when a shark bit his left foot this week. Truman Van Patrick said he was surfing in Fort Pierce Inlet State Park when he saw a dorsal fin pop out of the water. After catching another wave, he told Treasure Coast Newspapers he hopped off his board about 20 yards from shore and felt, QUOTE "a massive bite on my foot." He received 70 stitches, sustained broken bones and had to have a part of a tooth embedded in his foot removed. The man, who is from the West Palm Beach area but currently lives in Okeechobee (oh-kee-cho-bee), said the incident won't keep him out of the ocean. This is at least the seventh shark bite on the Treasure Coast this year.
