A former Northwest Florida fire chief died “an incredible hero” protecting his family from gunshots during an early morning shooting Saturday in Molino, according to the victim's cousin. Gary Diamond was a 56-year-old father and grandfather who worked for 10 years at Navarre Beach Fire Rescue, starting out as a fireman in 2006 and ending his career in 2016 as a captain. Officials say Diamond was gunned down outside his home in front of his wife, grandson and other family members. Deputies have charged in connection to the murder 30-year-old Jared Clakley, who is the father of two of Diamond’s grandchildren.
