A federal advisory panel voted Thursday in support of booster shots of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The recommendation would make an additional half-dose of the vaccine available to people 65 and older, as well as young adults with medical issues or conditions, or those whose jobs put them at increased risk of infection. Last month, the committee voted in support of booster shots for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, provided those vaccinated meet the same qualifications. Those who are immunocompromised because of organ transplant, cancer treatment or medication can already get third doses of either the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines. On Friday, the committee will meet again — this time to consider whether additional doses should be made available to those who received the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
