A cat suspected of being a wild African serval was caught in the St. Johns Water Management District near Palm Bay Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The animal was tranquilized and taken to South Florida to be kept with a licensed caretaker while investigators work to determine if it is a serval or another species of cat, according to Chad Weber, FWC spokesman. Weber said investigators are trying to find where the cat may have come from and if it is an exotic species belonging to a licensed owner or a domesticated species of cat that doesn't require a permit to own in Florida.
