Gov. Ron DeSantis's administration said on Wednesday that public school students exposed to COVID-19 must be allowed to remain in school unless they appear sick, a jarring reversal of coronavirus safety measures that could trigger another showdown with public school leaders, the Palm Beach Post reports. The new rule, issued by the state’s newly appointed Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo, replaces a state policy that required students who had been in “direct contact” with someone with COVID-19 to stay home from school for at least four days. Now, the new rule says, schools must “allow the student to attend school, school-sponsored activities, or be on school property, without restrictions or disparate treatment, so long as the student remains asymptomatic.”
