A sad end to the story of a missing 14-year-old swimmer in northwest Florida. The teen, visiting from Louisiana, went missing Wednesday evening near Destin. A witness saw the boy went into the Gulf of Mexico about 6:30 p.m. He began to struggle with the current, according to a sheriff's news release. Someone tried to rescue him, but also began to struggle. That person was able to get out of the water and lost sight of the boy. The local sheriff, the U.S. Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and local lifeguard programs spent Wednesday evening and most of the day Thursday combing the waters around Henderson Beach State Park looking for the boy. The teen's body was recovered Thursday about 1.5 miles from where he went missing.
