One hundred or more people fleeing the violence and chaos in Afghanistan are expected to resettle in Tallahassee, Florida over the next 12 months, according to an official with the International Rescue Committee. J.C. Torres, development manager for I-R-C Tallahassee, said the agency recently got word about the anticipated new arrivals. He said the I-R-C expects between 100 and 115 refugees to resettle in Tallahassee over the fiscal year, which began October 1. More than two dozen have been confirmed to arrive by the end of this calendar year, the Tallahassee Democrat reports. Torres said the I-R-C, one of nine national resettlement agencies that assist refugees as they integrate into American life, will make an announcement soon about how the community can help support them.
