An estimated 100 dogs, rabbits, and other animals were QUOTE "rescued from deplorable conditions" UNQUOTE early Monday after a search warrant was served at a home in Middleburg, Florida, Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said. The investigation of the home began weeks earlier when Clay County paramedics and deputies were summoned for a medical emergency involving one of two adults there, Cook said. A deeper investigation began when the Sheriff's Office said animals were found in cages inside the home, with fleas and the odor of animal waste, while livestock, including rabbits, pigs and chickens, were found outside on the property, the Florida Times-Union reports. The animals have been taken to a temporary animal services facility to be cleaned, checked, and ultimately made available for adoption, county officials said.
