The South African Medical Association (SAMA) says it is deeply concerned about the significant risks that fake doctors pose to public health and safety. This comes after the Gauteng Health Department opened a criminal case against a man, who claims to be a medical doctor. The bogus doctor, Matthew Lani, who also uses the names - Bongani Zingelwa or Sanele Zingelwa - claimed that he was a medical graduate from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School, however, the University says it cannot find any person with either name.  In another incident, Limpopo resident Nthabiseng Ramokolo is accused of falsely claiming to be a qualified pharmacist and pursuing a master's degree. The University of Limpopo has confirmed that it has no existing record of Ramokolo, who has been posing on social media as a master's student at the institution.
