Gauteng health refutes reports it wants school girls to receive contraceptives

The Gauteng Department of Health has refuted recent media reports alleging that it intends to compel school girls aged 12 years and above, to receive contraceptives without their consent. The reports began earlier this month following a school visit by provincial Health MEC, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, where she was reported to have announced the alleged proposed rollout of the program. Gauteng Health Department Spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba, says it is important to note that the MEC was misquoted. Elvis Presslin spoke to Education activist, Hendrick Makaneta, who is among several activists who demanded that the department urgently clarify the alleged program
