Over 4 million people in South Africa live with type 2 diabetes

View descriptionShare

A shocking survey conducted by the University of Pretoria and Statistics South Africa has revealed that over 4 million people in South Africa are living with type 2 diabetes, with many not receiving adequate treatment. The University of Pretoria's Diabetes Research Centre warns that the alarming rise in type 2 diabetes, driven by poor diets and lack of physical activity, is exacerbating this crisis. The study's findings are dire, with a significant number of patients failing to meet critical health targets, putting them at risk of severe complications. Elvis Presslin spoke to Dr. Patrick Ngassa Piotie, Senior Programme Manager at the University of Pretoria's Diabetes Research Centre and Chairperson of the Diabetes Alliance
