Methane gas has been identified as the cause of the recent explosion that rocked the Johannesburg city centre last month. An investigation found that methane gas was the cause of the deadly Lillian Ngoyi Street (formerly known as Bree Street) explosion that killed one person, and left scores others injured - and caused infrastructure damage worth millions.
