Family law experts react to violent removal of learners from a primary school

View descriptionShare

The disturbing images of a group of gun and panga-wielding men violently removing two learners from the Matshidisong Primary School in Katlehong, on Gauteng's East Rand, have brought to the fore, the issue of custody battles and how the conduct of the adults in a child's life, can impact the child. This as four out of five men arrested in connection with the incident are expected to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court this morning. The group was rounded up after video footage purportedly showing a panga-wielding man identified as Pastor Paseka "Mboro" Motsoeneng and two other men, one of whom carrying an assault rifle, went viral on social media platforms. In the wake of the incident, former South African Human Rights Commissioner and lawyer, Jonas Sibanyoni has commended the actions of teachers at the school for trying to protect the two learners during the incident.
