Former minister, Pravin Gordhan has passed away in hospital, surrounded by family, friends and comrades in the liberation struggle. The 75-year old retired from active politics after this year's general election. His last portfolio in the South African Cabinet was Minister of Public Enterprises, from 2018 to 2024, after serving two terms as Minister of Finance, from 2009 to 2014 and again from 2015 to 2017. He also served as Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from 2014 to 2015. From March 1999 to 2009 – he was the Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service. The Bench Marks Foundation is calling on government to investigate the causes of the dam collapse in jaggersfounatin and issue its full forensic report. Yesterday marked two years since the incident, were a tailing dam at the Jagersfontein mine in free state burst its wall, sending a torrent of mine waste down the slope to the settlements of Charlesville and Itumeleng.The disaster resulted in three fatalities, two people still missing, with the destruction of 164 homes, contaminated farmland, and the loss of livestock. Elvis Presslin spoke to Hassen Lorgat, from the - tailings working group...

Government called to investigate causes of Jagersfontein dam collapse

Today marks 47 years since the passing of Black Consciousness Movement leader, Stephen Bantu Biko. Forty-seven years ago, Steve Biko died from severe head injuries sustained while in police detention in Pretoria, a victim of the apartheid regime's brutality. To honour his legacy, the Azanian People's Organization (AZAPO) and the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) will today host a public lecture at Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha. Elvis Presslin spoke to AZAPO National Spokesperson, Jabu Rakwena to discuss the event and Biko's enduring impact on South Africa's struggle for equality and justice
