The Rural Health Advocacy Project has welcomed Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana's focus on efficiencies in the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement. Executive Director Russell Rensburg says while government's efficiency drive is gaining traction, better spending must translate into improved access to healthcare. He says recent allocations, including over 500-million-rand to the District Health Programme Grant to offset the PEPFAR withdrawal, are a step in the right direction. Mr. Rensburg joins us on the line to elaborate further on his sentiments

A cascading water contamination crisis is sweeping across Gauteng and the Eastern Cape, leaving hundreds of residents hospitalized and multiple municipal networks compromised. From unchlorinated municipal systems in Tshwane to raw sewage spilling into Pretoria's reservoirs and unexplained gastrointestinal outbreaks at universities and prisons in the Eastern Cape, bulk infrastructure failures are actively threatening public health.
